THE 50th anniversary of Pegasus Junior Football Club was certainly a night to remember and it will stay with me for a long time. It was wonderful and I was so happy that my wife Christine and I were able to be there with the lads who form part of that very special club.
I little thought, when I formed Pegasus Juniors in 1955, that I would be seeing them in 50 years time.
What was so wonderful was that of the 11 who played in that first game, eight made it to the reunion and, considering that one of the 11 died at a every early age, this was quite remarkable.
I have always said that Pegasus Juniors was not just a football club but more like a social club. you did not belong just because you played football, you had to conform to certain standards and seeing all those 200-plus people at the dinner made me proud.
I recall setting up the club and have to thank Ted Woodriffe from the Gloucester Citizen and then the Hereford Times, for his help.
He was a big man in many ways and a great help to me and the club.
It pleased me that the 50th event was organised by old members of the club - some of the original 11.
May they go on to foster sport and goodwill in the game. It was an emotional journey down memory lane that will stay with me for a long time.
