THE birth of a new baby is a time for joy.
Hereford County Hospital has been the scene of many happy celebrations when a new boy or girl is brought into the world.
But sadly there are occasions when joy turns to sorrow at the still birth of a baby, or its death in early days.
Thankfully it is a rare occurrence but the hospital likes to think the infant and parents are not forgotten.
Each year the chaplains hold a memorial service in the hospital chapel and invite them and their families to come along.
It is interdenominational, everyone is welcome and comfort and support is offered, said the Rev Philip Roberts.
The name of every lost child is read out and a candle lit in their name and parents, brothers or sisters are encouraged to take part.
Last year up to 50 people joined in to share their memories and a similar service is planned for July.
It will take place in the hospital chapel, just inside the main entrance on Tuesday, July 5, at 7.30pm and will last about 30 minutes.
During the service there will be a short sermon by the Rev Barbara Chillington, from Madley, who at one time worked as a nurse at the County Hospital.
