GARNONS 2nd skipper Steve Newton might have been reconsidering his decision to insert Kington 3rd in Flint & Cook Marches League Division 3 after the home side battered 308-4 on the hottest day of the year so far.

Wayne Morgan, who was dropped at slip in the third over, went on to make 141, sharing in an opening stand of 141 with Simon Williams.

Morgan, who hit 17 fours and three sixes, took particular toll on one over from John Worle in which he hammered five fours and a six.

In reply, David Brown (116) also completed a century and, with good support from Gareth Evans (46) took the visitors' total to a respectable 240-5.

Andrew Davies, with 98 not out, put Wormelow 2nd in a winning position at Ross and the victory was then completed by father-and-son combination of Ian (4-30) and David Bannerman (2-21), with assistance from Mick Merrick (3-20).

Moccas are still looking for their first win of the season but might have improved their position if they had not dropped Talgarth 2nd's Hugh Griffiths (104) five times in a six-wicket defeat.

The prolific Peter Hinkley (47 not out) improved his already-impressive batting average still further as, with help from Matt Aubrey (58), he led Division 2 pacemakers Bartestree & Lugwardine to a seven-wicket win over Builth Wells.

Nick Osborne's 50, although the top score of the match, proved in vain as Hereford City went down by three wickets to Leominster.

Matthew Teale was also top-scorer of the match between Shobdon and Marden with a round half-century but his innings was rewarded with success as Shobdon came out on top by two wickets.

Stewart Townsend starred with the bat with 71 as Burghill & Tillington 2nd inflicted a first defeat of the season on Division 4 leaders Ross 2nd, for whom D Daniels made an unbeaten 68. Graham Pennington returned the fine figures of 5-16 for the winning side.

Bosbury took full advantage of Ross' defeat as Mark Wadley's 66 set up a 110-run over Builth Wells 2nd to maintain their unbeaten record.

Leominster 2nd's seamer Andy Dawson also found his form, but with the ball, and his 6-20 set up a 78-run win over Bartestree & Lugwardine 2nd.

Lads Club's Bryan Caffelle (3-15 and 46 not out) starred with bat and ball in an eight-wicket win over Herefordians in Division 5 while Almeley's S Jones (60 and 5-31) was in similarly productive all-round form as the villagers beat Hereford City 2nd by 152 runs.

In Division 7, Bartestree & Lugwardine St Mary's openers Nigel Shore (108) and Richard Fisher (82 not out) posted an impressive first-wicket stand of 185 to set up a 42-run win over Weobley.

There was a rare win in the same division for Shire Bulls with a good all-round performance by B Boswell (65 and 3-16) spearheading the city side's success against Minster Dales.
