WITH less than half of the season played, Mon-mouth already look unstoppable at the top of the Flint & Cook Marches League Division 1.

Glangrwyney were the latest club to suffer at the hands of the reigning champions and were on the wrong end of a 224-run hammering at the Sports Ground.

Opener Rob Prewett led the way for Monmouth with 104 and his opening stand with Wayne Etheridge (39) was worth 82 before the pair were parted.

Ian Mackinlay (49) and David Teague (39) helped to boost the total but, despite the huge score, Glangrwyney skipper Phil Bowker returned creditable bowling figures of 6-107.

In reply, the visitors never recovered after Paul Swingwood (4-19) and Jonathan Roberts (3-19) had demolished the top order, eventually subsiding for just 59.

The battle behind Monmouth is really hotting up with a number of side vying for the honour of leading the chasing pack.

Burghill & Tillington maintained their recent impressive form with Kingsley Morris scoring a century as they won by four wickets away at Garnons.

The home side had made a good start with Alan Jones (56) and skipper Jon Andrews (106) posting 116 for the first wicket before Morris (2-57) had Jones superbly caught by Mark Preece on the long-on boundary.

Andrews cracked 15 fours and a six in his fine innings but no-one was able to give prolonged support as the Garnons innings closed on 225.

In reply, Morris was in irrepressible form, reaching his 50 in just 20 balls, including a spate of five successive boundaries from the unfortunate Jim Cotterell.

With the help of skipper Clive Chadhani (51 not out), Morris (101) ensured that Burghill powered home with plenty of time to spare.

Wormelow's batting proved too strong for Llandrindod Wells who left Kennel Field after a heavy 96-run defeat.

Openers Shaun Waldron (61) and Jamie Langford (44) added 103 for the first Wormelow wicket, leaving the platform for Ian Herbert (80 not out) and skipper Chris Powell (53) to raise the total to 290-4.

Teenagers Steve Wild (3-11) and James Cutler (3-38) stood out in the Wormelow attack but N Mills (62 not out) and C Truelove (52) ensured a respectable score of 194-7 for the visitors.

Talgarth maintained their good recent run with a conclusive 85-run win over visiting Goodrich.

The Welshmen's skipper Glyn Harrhy led the way with 76, gaining good support from New Zealander Haydn Whiting (45) and Mark Waldeck (27) as Talgarth reached 241-5 from their 45 overs.

Andy Russell (2-79) and Phil Evans (2-83) were the pick of the Goodrich bowlers.

In reply, only Andrew Brown (27) and Eddie Pyatt (15 not out) were able to hang around for long as Talgarth seamers S Williams (4-23) and Glen Reynolds (2-49) got to work.
