BROCKHAMPTON powered their way to their highest score of the season in the Crusader Worcestershire League Division 1 as they notched a winning draw at Bewdley.

Nick Denny and Dave Mokler gave the villagers a fine start with an opening stand of 145 and when Mokler departed for 69, Adam Hewlett (27) and Mohammad Ali (39) both joined Denny in profitable stands.

Denny was eventually out after hitting three sixes and 12 fours in a fine innings of 129.

Richard Parker made an early breakthrough with his second ball but at 98-1 from 20 overs, Bewdley were still in contention.

Off-spinner Simon Crump (3-57), Ali (2-46) and, towards the end, Hewlett (2-8) then all played their parts in keeping the scoring in check as Brockhampton claimed a winning draw.

Luctonians came within a whisker of bringing their losing run to an end when they went down by just one wicket against visiting Droitwich Spa.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Luctonians overcame the loss of an early wicket with a second-wicket stand of 115 between Greg Powell (65) and skipper Duncan Platford (62).

After the pair were separated, however, no-one was able to make a major contribution although Paul Davies (13), Jonathan Davis (13) and Simon Davies (10) chipped in with double-figure scores.

Opener G Cartwright (76) batted well when the visitors replied and former Herefordshire player Jerome Connor contributed 36.

But with Ed Rollings (3-57), Ollie Williams (2-50) and Paul Davies (2-46) picking up wickets on a regular basis, the result remained in doubt right until the end.

Kington brought a run of two defeats to an end with a welcome eight-wicket success at Stourbridge which reinforced their position near the top of the table.

The home side, after being put into bat, found runs hard to come by and only Humyan Farhat, with 48, was able to play a major innings.

Farhat was eventually stumped by Stuart Turpin off Dominic Marsh, one of five victims for the Australian all-rounder who received solid support from Adam Herbert (2-47), Owen Price (1-37) and Kevin Gwynne (1-46) as Stourbridge stumbled to 168-9.

Kington lost Tom Brierley early in their reply but this brought in Dave Exall to join Edward Symonds and the pair took their side to the brink of victory before Symonds was caught off Pakistan Test player Imran Farhat (1-44) for 54.

Martin Powell (eight not out) came in to keep Exall company and the Herefordshire all-rounder was left one short of his century when the victory target was achieved.

Eastnor were dismissed for just 109 at Romsley & Hunnington but made the home side battle hard for their win which was achieved for the loss of six wickets.

Initially the home side had appeared to be cruising when they reached 95-1 but a flurry of wickets, instigated by Arshad Hussain (3-4), then rapidly reduced Romsley to 100-6.

After this, however, the home side squeezed home without further alarm.

Previously unbeaten Bromyard lost their record - as well as top spot in Division 2 - in spectacular style when they were hammered by 193 runs by new leaders Barnards Green.

On a very hot day, Bromyard won the toss but invited Barnards Green to bat and the Malvern side took full advantage with skipper Chris Smedley (81) and opener Richard Williams (72), in particular, batting well as the visitors racked up an imposing 283-8.

David Taylor returned 3-51 from seven overs towards the end of the innings while James Hine took 2-58, but Bromyard were not helped when Zahid Saeed turned an ankle and so was able to bowl just nine overs.

Bromyard's hopes were further hit by the dismissal of Matthew Bullock in the first over of their reply and the home side quickly stumbled to 39-6.

Veteran Dave Benbow (27 not out) and Hine (15) retrieved the damage to some extent but Bromyard were all out for 90 in the 39th over.
