HEREFORDSHIRE CBA had a week of mixed fortune when they entertained Vale of Glamorgan BA at Brimfield and won 128-101 before losing 161-81 to Bedfordshire Tourists at Kington.
The match at Brimfield was played with high winds throughout but the bowling was of a high standard and this was shown by David White's rink who all played very well and lost only seven ends in a 26-12 success.
Jim Farmer's rink also lost only seven ends and were always in control for a 24-14 win, while Colin Reading's rink fought back from 13-8 down after 15 ends to win five of the remaining ends for a 19-14 victory.
Don Pugh's rink was down 18-15 after 18 ends, but the home skip played the remaining ends superbly to win 22-19, and the home Brimfield rink, skipped by R Griffiths, went ahead 13-12 after nine ends and kept in front for a 24-20 victory.
The rink skipped by John Wear were always behind in a tight contest and finally lost by 22-13.
Bedfordshire Tourists showed why their county is so highly rated when they won on five rinks at Kington with Dave Holloway skipping his rink to the only home win, when in a very close match they won 18-17.
Ray Walker's rink were 11-9 ahead after 12 ends, but the visitors went in front at the next end and finally won 23-16, while Austin Gayther's rink fought hard but lost by 25-15.
Ron Bithell's rink won only six ends of a low-scoring match but were still in touch after 17 ends at 9-13 before the tourists won the remaining ends 10-4 for a 23-13 victory.
The rink skipped by D Durrant won six ends only and were defeated 32-8, and the rink skipped by Don Pugh were down 13-6 after 10 ends, but their opponents scored heavily during the second half of the match and won 41-11.
