Ledbury first XV finally got their season up and running with a convincing 22-11 victory over Earlsdon last Saturday.
LEDBURY 22pts, EARLSDON 11pts
Ledbury started the game in high tempo but they failed to score in these early exchanges getting turned over or penalised on several occasions.
From the resulting penalties Earlsdon worked their way down field. Further infringement by Ledbury allowed Earlsdon to kick two penalty goals in quick succession, thus taking the score to 6-0.
The second half started well for Ledbury with Jarrett Osbourne going into the corner after a good move involving Barrett Price and Kieram Hallam. Earlsdon then fought back and scored a try through their outside half, following some rare weak tackling. Ledbury then bought on young scrum half Tom Houlbrooke, making his first team debut.
Gareth Rowlands and Bill Sparrey continued to be outstanding, both making ground at every opportunity. From one of these runs the ball was moved wide through several pairs of hands, reaching Kieram Hallam who sprinted over the line from 40 metres. From the resulting kick- off, a clever kick down field from Rob Collins resulted in the ball being gathered by Theo Mobasa who fed Ollie Kaye, who sprinted in between the posts, breaking his six game try drought.
Ledbury wrapped up the game with a superb try from Will Green after a fine break from Collins.
Rob Collins, Ledbury coach said: "It was a fine all round team performance. One which we need to build upon for the next tough league encounter away against the high-flying Barker Butts."
