LEDBURY RFC has unveiled a new two-year sponsorship deal with Much Marcle cider makers H Weston and Sons , to launch the 'Weston's Community Rugby Scheme'.
Through the club's part-time rugby development manager, it looks to deliver a range of rugby initiatives which include the introduction of tag-rugby into local primary schools during both the summer and autumn terms with a major tag -festival in June.
Others include the formation of a junior tag-league and a floodlit competition between local high schools.
Chairman John Wilesmith welcomed the partnership. He said: "It shows that the club is planning for the future, the development of the game at a local level and seeking to strengthen the link between schools and the club's growing junior section."
Westons has traditionally had a strong association with sport in the local community, in particular rugby. Helen Thomas, managing director, said: "Today's young people will be tomorrow's employees. Being fit and involved with team sports is a good start to any career and employers need good team players."
Future developments also include the establishment of teacher workshops and holiday rugby camps, with the first being launched this August.
Peter Church, the club's rugby development manager, said: "Holiday rugby camps have proved successful elsewhere in the county whereby youngsters improve their skill level, harness their talents and, in particular, have fun."
As a result of the deal, the club also qualified for Sports Match funding.
