Ledbury Town opened their new Express & Star West Midland Premier Division campaign with a good home win against Wednesfield.
LEDBURY TOWN 2, WEDNESFIELD 1
The first half was evenly contested with much of the play in the midfield. Neither goalkeeper was extended as the teams found the hot conditions difficult.
The home side applied more pressure down the slope after the interval and on the hour they took the lead when Gareth Davis ran onto a good ball from Robbie Colwell and slotted home.
Wednesfield came back strongly and had several attempts at goal but keeper Craig Humphries, who was making his league debut, was in outstanding form and kept them at bay.
The visitors did equalise when a defensive error let in Darryl Smith who levelled the score.
Ledbury then seemed to step up the pace and within five minutes were back in front. Gareth Davis fed the ball through to Robbie Colwell who scored with ease from close range.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury Town are at home again to Smethwick ST (2.45pm).
