HONOURS finished even in a fiery West Midlands premier division encounter at New Street on Saturday.
Ledbury TOWN 1, SHAWBURY UNITED 1
Shropshire side Shawbury created the first chance when Darren Leonard's shot from six yards was cleared off the line by Steve Olczak.
Minutes later Robbie Colwell brought out a good save from Steve Jones in the Shawbury goal. Ledbury broke the deadlock after 24 minutes after good interplay between Lee Hooper and Robbie Colwell saw the latter hit an unstoppable shot from 20 yards to put Ledbury 1-0 up.
Minutes later, Ledbury's Gareth Davis rattled the Shawbury crossbar with a rasping drive.
Shawbury drew level just before half-time after Nick Porter was felled in the box. Steve Handley stepped up to confidently stroke the ball home.
A moment of friction between the two teams saw Ledbury's Gareth Davis sent off.
Despite being reduced to ten men, Ledbury worked hard and dominated the second-half. On 67 minutes Nathan Haisley almost put Ledbury ahead but his firm header skimmed the wrong side of the post. Eight minutes later a defence-splitting ball from Stuart Smith sent Robbie Colwell clear but his crisp shot was well saved by Jones.
Ledbury laid siege to the Shawbury goal in the final ten minutes, but could not find the net.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury are at home again against Tividale (2.45pm).
