A planning application to build a day centre for adults with learning difficulties on Newent library car park has been withdrawn by Gloucestershire County Council.
Will Windsor Clive, Newent's Conservative county councillor, said the re-think was made possible by the Tories taking control at Shire Hall at the election.
The day centre project, which would have meant the loss of up to 20 car parking spaces in the town centre, is now being re-examined.
Coun Windsor Clive said the submission of any new planning application would be put back until at least September but there was still a commitment to provide for local adults with learning difficulties.
