A LEDBURY woman has been awarded the MBE for her work as a manager with West Mercia Constabulary.
Louise Hickey, who is involved in helping to run counselling and support systems for Police staff, said: "It was a complete shock but I am terribly proud.
"I joined the force as an assistant cook at Worcester Police Station 30 years ago and only planned to stay about six months, until I decided what I wanted to do."
Since then, she has risen through the ranks to become the force's senior contracts manager, responsible for catering and cleaning arrangements.
Louise is chairman of the Hereford Amateur Pantomime Society and recently received a medal from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association to mark her 25 years with the group.
She has directed seven pantomimes, including Mother Goose at The Courtyard in Hereford in February.
