SAM Baker carried off the first division prize in Burghill Valley's June medal with Trevor Finning taking the title in the second division.

Ron Price took top honours in Division 1 of the Burghill Valley Seniors individual stableford competition with 37 points, holding off the challenge of Bob Faulkner (35 points) and Peter Warner (34).

In Division 2, Richard Corner's 38 points were enough to earn him top spot by a single point from Max Cooke. Charles Matthew followed the pair home with 34 points to finish third.

q Kington GC joined in the 25th anniversary celebrations of their town's twinning with Marines, a small town about 25 miles due west of Paris.

Joe James put together a team to join the trip to France and play Marines when his team-mates were John Allen, John McArthur and Gareth Jones.

They played their match at the splendid Chateau de la Chouette course near the host town where they lost 3-1. Marines will visit Kington for a return game next year.

Gareth Jones (90-28-62) carried off the club's June medal with Alan Williams' 71 earning him the gross prize.

q Forty-two Hereford-shire GC Seniors contested their captain Norman Sockett's away day at Builth Wells in ideal conditions.

q A PGA professional will be offering a free lesson to anyone attending the HSB Golf Roadshow which is at the Three Counties Show, Malvern, on Sunday.

An inflatable driving range, manned by a PGA pro, will be erected at the ground and there will also be a NIKE demonstration area for those wishing to try the latest equipment.

The main aim of the road show is to introduce and encourage people to the game of golf.

q Pete James' gross score of 151 was enough to win him the Belmont GC club championship by eight shots from Richard Lloyd.

The club's Acorn Trophy for best nett score went to James King.

q Ross-on-Wye juniors produced an excellent result away from home when they drew at Forest Hills.

The successful young players were Jamie Hay, playing off a handicap of 13, Ed Mayer (20) and Harry Bethall (28).

q Several new members came to the fore in Kingstone High School golf society's June medal, notable Alex Lawrence who won with an excellent net score of 22.

Luke Williams is beginning to pay for his recent improvement as a level par score was only enough to bring him division 1 honours while father-and-son combination cleaned up in division 2.

But the pair only took the title on the back six from James Turner and Steve Jones (74-8.5-65.5) with Phil Leach and Alan Powell (82-16-66) following close behind.

Herefordshire A maintained their unbeaten record in the scratch league when they halved 2-2 with Ludlow B at Ludlow. Ben Synnock and Jon Devereux were Herefordshire's successful players.

q Sapey's Garry Henderson took runners-up spot in the Alan Wilcox Memorial Salver when 63 members took part in the annual summer meeting of the society of Shropshire and Herefordshire Golf Club Captains at Royal St David's in Harlech.
