THE first fixture under BHRC rules at the Leominster circuit clashed with a major handicap at Pikehall, so it was a surprisingly huge crowd that cheered home the combatants in the ten races.
Richard Owens, owner/trainer/driver of the mighty Fearless JR, chose to race close to his Allensmore home rather than make the trek to the Peak District, and the decision paid dividends. He hurtled clear of the ever-green Max Factor (Pete Collins) to take the Vintage Handicap, and later made it a very special double when dominating the Free For All, sizzling a length and a half ahead of the handsome Free Contender (Julie Phillips).
It was a memorable day for the Allensmore enthusiasts as R Stanley stuck bravely to his guns with Colin Bevan to give owners Brian Reynolds and Jim Lawrence their first winner of the season. Both owners are ultra-active supporters, thus it was a fitting victory.
Raider Joss Edwards made the long trip from North Wales well worthwhile when the sensationally speedy Dunitagain did it again to record another victory at Leominster.
Next fixtures: Broadheath, Sunday 2 pm (12 races, heats and final). Exhibition racing at Three Counties Show, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
