A NEW Junior 15 double scull teaming of Will Spencer and E-J Goode from Hereford Cathedral School took their first ever win in emphatic style at Bridgnorth regatta. In the final they met HCS teammates and another new crew in James Surrey and Jim Brace.

Both crews had reached the all-Cathedral final with convincing wins over Wycliffe College opposition. Spencer and Goode cruised home by a huge margin while the Surrey/Brace pairing maintained a comfortable lead despite a few scares as they fought to keep to the winding course.

In the final the experience of Spencer and Goode showed through as superior steering saw them take an early lead as their opponents lost time and the benefit of the stream in shallow water.

Late pace from Surrey and Brace kept them in the hunt but in the end they were unable to overhaul the leaders who went on to win by four lengths.

q SCULLING brothers Nik and Daniel Middleton completed yet another clean sweep at Bridgnorth Regatta last weekend.

The younger of the Tideway Scullers duo, 12-year-old Niklas beat Andrew Graham of the host club in the final of the MJ 12 single sculls.

Elder brother Daniel had a more difficult task in not only entering his own age group but rowing up a year in J15s.

In the J14 singles, D'Arc of Ross was beaten in the final, and in the older event victories over Wycliffe College and Bewdley in the final brought 100% success.
