HEREFORDSHIRE motorcycle racer Chaz Davies gave a superb performance at the Spanish Grand Prix held at Catalunya over an intensely competitive weekend only to be forced out ultimately by engine failure.
Chaz had a beautiful start getting up to 13th in lap one, 12th on lap two, 11th on lap three, and going on to reach 8th place by lap six. Then, with three laps to go, the engine seized as Chaz passed the pit garage.
"It (the bike) had started not to rev properly a few laps before", said Chaz, "and then it suddenly let go."
On examination following the race it was discovered that a small piece of sealing gasket had broken away and found its way into the carburettor and was stopping fuel entering the engine, resulting in less and less fuel as the race went on with a consequential seizure and retirement.
