PLANS are well under way for what might be the last South Wye Big Event on the King George V Playing Fields in Hereford unless new sponsorship can be found.

The Big Event - planned for Saturday, September 3 - is organised by the South Wye Regenera-tion Partnership (SWRP) set up in 1998 after the area was awarded £4.3 million from central government to spend until March 2006.

The Partnership is made up of representatives of the community, voluntary, public and private sectors.

Each year has seen the event grow. SWRP, the publicity group and many local residents, who organise the day, estimate 9,000 people attended last year's.

The family day once again includes a funfair, free face painting, Laser quest, sports activities, static displays and a central arena with a programme of attractions and marquees with displays of local activities and projects.

Publicity group members are now also looking to expand the range of items for sale on the day and is interested in hearing from people with craft stalls.

The Partnership is approaching potential sponsors to ensure that the Big Event can continue in 2006 and beyond. Anyone wishing to know more can contact Will Lindesay, South Wye Community Co-ordinator, South Wye Community Development Team, Pool Farm, Belmont Road, Hereford, HR2 7JZ, or call 01432 383232.

It is also looking to employ an event organiser to work with the publicity group.
