A Ledbury father and son, who share the same birthday, gained Tae Kwon Do black belt awards at the same grading tournament in Doncaster on Sunday.

Callum James, aged eight, passed his first dan black belt and became one of the youngest holders of this grade in Great Britain. Father Neil, 37, a training officer in the ITP department at Amcor Flexibles, also gained his black belt.

The pair have been training for about four years at Ledbury Tae Kwon Do Club under the guidance of Jason Vaughan and Jayne Langley.

Callum, who has only just recovered from having his tonsils out four weeks ago, said: "I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in getting to this standard, especially my mum, Joanne, who has been to every grading and tournament that I have attended."

Two other club members also passed their gradings, Ian Bonsai (2nd dan) and the first female from the club to achieve black belt, Anne Taylor (first dan).

The club trains at Ledbury Leisure Centre on Thursday starting at 6.30-7.30pm and Sundays 4.30-5.30pm.
