Celebrations are taking place after the award of a £1,670 grant to Bromyard and District History Society.

The money, from the Big Lottery Fund, will be used to buy new display material.

"It's great news," said exhibitions co-ordinator Mandy Palmer.

"We're hoping to spend it on new mannequins. The one we've got is so old, it's falling apart."

A commemorative VE day exhibition, focusing on Bromyard during the war, is currently on display at the society's Sherford Street premises. A recreated war-time kitchen is the centrepiece.

"The display has been very successful," said Ms Palmer. "We've had lots of visitors, and it's been popular with both locals and tourists."

Photographs, archive documents and war-time memorabilia are also included in the exhibition, which runs until June 30.

The display will also feature in the Bromyard Gala, on July 2 and 3.
