braVery and quick-thinking from two part-time firefighters saved their own factory from being destroyed.
Eight fire crews spent seven hours tackling the blaze at Securidor Ltd, Bromyard, on Wednesday.
Securidor employees Michael Beale and Andy Cozens were first on the scene when the fire started, at midday.
"A colleague called for me, so I grabbed the fire extinguisher," said Mr Beale, aged 24.
"When I opened the door, I saw the fire was growing and growing, so it was pointless to try to extinguish it.
"I sounded the alarm, got everybody out, rang the brigade and Andy and I ran to the fire station to get our kit on and get back."
The fire, thought to have been started by a piece of equipment, was prevented from causing serious damage.
Neville Turner, Bromyard watch commander, said: "It was a serious one.
"There were various chemicals involved, and we had to stop the fire from spreading to other chemical containers, otherwise there would have been an almighty bang.
"Luckily it just damaged a corner of the building, and staff are now back in cleaning up."
Mr Turner praised colleagues' actions and highlighted the importance of retained fire officers.
"The initial crew were excellent, it's very nice to know that they were there to help their company in a time of need."
Bromyard has 14 retained officers on call when required, but more are needed.
"We're always looking for more and are grateful to all businesses that release employees," said Mr Turner.
"Joining up was the best thing I ever did," said Mr Beale.
