Ledbury residents are being urged to pull on their running shoes for a charity event in Eastnor Park.

The Ledbury Harriers and the town's Rotary Club have joined forces to organise a fun run on Sunday, July 3.

Participants can choose from a three or seven-mile course and everyone who enters will receive a medal.

To enter, runners must raise sponsorship, 75 per cent of which will go to their favourite charity with the remainder being pooled and donated to Macmillan Nurses.

Organisers hope to raise at least £7,000.

David Houghton, president of the Rotary Club, said: "Over the past five years we have built up a good following for our main club event, the Ledbury Chase.

"This new club event, the Magnificent Eastnor Castle Seven, has the double benefit of bringing in a new venture, while giving enjoyment and helping others in our community."

The Rotary Club, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, has made an award of £1,000 to this year's President's Charity, the Acorns Children's Hospice.

Chris Price, of Acorns, was presented with a cheque on Wednesday, June 1.

He went on to talk to members about the work of the hospice.
