COUNTY racing drivers featured at Shelsley Walsh last Sunday when two rounds of the Nicholson McLaren British Hill Climb Championship were run at the classic venue, which is celebrating its centenary year.

Sue Young from Yarkhill trimmed one hundredth of a second from her ladies' record to leave it at 26.97 seconds.

Orleton driver Scott Moran stopped the clocks at 24.86 for third place in the morning run-off. And his father, Roger, drove the family's Gould GR 61X to fourth place in a time of 24.98 seconds.

Deryk Young powered his Gould GR 51 to fourth place in the closely contested afternoon run-off with a time of 25.36 over the famous 1,000 yards course. Scott Moran was fifth on 25.39 and Roger Moran took seventh with 25.42.

Leominster's Pete Bishop won the class for 2000cc modified sports cars with a time of 32.71 in his Westfield. Paul Sandford from Ross-on-Wye drove his OMS to second place in the 2000cc sports libre class on 29.58 and Ledbury driver Mike Fisher won the pre-1972 classic car handicap with a time of 36.12 in his Pringett Mistrale.
