THERE will be no messing about on the river when up to 200 rafters take to the water for a serious sprint from Ross-on-Wye to Monmouth on Saturday.
The 22-mile race serves both as a warm-up for the May Day Bank Holiday's 100-Mile Raft Race and as a less challenging event for those who find Europe's longest raft race too daunting.
Saturday's race, like its big brother, is organised by CHAR, the Committee for Herefordshire Amateur Rafters, in aid of charities supporting the elderly and disabled, including Herefordshire's Dial a Ride community transport scheme.
There is no pre-registration required for the race.
Anyone wishing to take part should turn up on Saturday at Ross Rowing Club, Rope Walk, at 10am for the 10.30 am start. The first raft is expected to finish by 2.30pm.
Entry is £10 per person. Call CHAR on 01432 277622.
