Wellington 1 Heath Hayes 3
PHYSICAL strength and size proved to be a decisive factor as visiting West Midlands League Premier Division challengers Heath Hayes finished strongly in the extreme conditions to leap-frog Wellington into fifth spot in the table, all the goals coming after the break.
A fierce cross-field wind made control difficult for both teams but Welling-ton adapted well to have the better of a first half and almost opened the scoring when the ball broke kindly for Robbie Parsons, who struck his shot well but saw it cleared off the line.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 61st minute when Wellington lost the ball in midfield and Heath Hayes broke quickly to give Priday no chance.
Within two minutes Wellington were level when Peter Wallace side-footed home a left-wing cross from Parsons.
However, the big, strong visiting side finished strongly as Wellington tired in the testing conditions and they grabbed a second goal when their hosts failed to clear a free-kick into the box.
As Wellington pushed up to make a late bid for a share of the points, Heath Hayes broke away to seal victory with a late goal.
