CHILDREN at St Martin's Primary School in Hereford were 'dancing with daffodils' when they took part in last Friday's nationwide attempt to smash the world simultaneous poetry reading record.
They joined 250,000 children in 1100 schools around the country to recite Wordsworth's famous Daffodils on its 200th anniversary.
But it wasn't only the world record that was in their sights - a 50 pence 'entry fee' will help raise £135,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care who organised the event as part of its annual Daffodil Campaign. At approximately £875 for each of the poem's 154 words, that makes them words worth reading.
Three other Herefordshire schools - Whitecross High School, Lucton School, Leominster and Kingstone and Thruxton Primary School - brought the county's total contribution to the record-breaking attempt to more than 850 voices.
