VISITORS enjoying Herefordshire by rambling, walking and horse riding are boosting the county's economy and that's official.
A report shows that £500 million is spent annually by people using local rights of way networks and open spaces in the West Midlands - and it highlights Herefordshire's Mortimer Trail.
The walking trail from Kington to Ludlow has been a huge success. It has generated between 15 and 30 per cent more income for businesses along the route.
The report, Informal recreation and the regional economy in the West Midlands, published by Advantage West Midlands and The Countryside Agency, says 'well targeted investment' on outdoor leisure is boosting the economy.
The Countryside Agency is calling for more investment - cash spent on improving footpaths would be money well spent, it says.
Agency spokesman Nigel Jones said: "If we can improve the quality of the routes and rights of ways and enhance the overall quality of the visitor experience it will undoubtedly boost our regional economy."
