A HEREFORDSHIRE man is set to see another side to the Brecon Beacons when he undertakes an SAS specialist challenge.
Ian Moseley, 42, of Canon Pyon, usually enjoys the peace and tranquillity of the Welsh mountains as part of a brisk walk.
But when he crosses the border on July 9 and dons his combat fatigues, he will be pushed to the limit as part of the SAS Combat Survival Mission in aid of the Guide Dogs for the Blind.
"I have spent many relaxing hours in the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, but have never experienced the physical, mental and emotional hurdles I will be expected to overcome if I am to succeed in this challenge," he said.
The event, which will run from July 9 to July 11, will see former SAS members challenge the volunteers in a number of escape and evasion exercises and deploy a hunter force to track Ian and his colleagues down.
Ian said he has already received a great deal of support for his challenge, but is encouraging more people to help such a worthwhile charity.
"My friends and neighbours have been very generous and I hope other people in the town will sponsor me if they can," he said.
"Even a few pounds will make a huge difference and mean Guide Dogs for the Blind can continue their invaluable work supporting people who will experience that greater independence offered by a guide dog," he added.
