TV RECEPTION - The poor television reception in the Knighton and East Radnorshire area is to be put under scrutiny by senior officials from the communications industry watchdog Ofcom at a public meeting organised by Brecon and Radnorshire MP, Roger Williams, to be held in the Knighton Hotel on Friday, April 2, at 6pm. Local AM Kirsty Williams will also be in attendance. Roger Williams has made strenuous efforts over the past few years to support Knighton Town Council's own efforts and those of his predecessor as MP, Lord Livsey, to secure action from Government to improve terrestrial TV transmissions in to the east Radnorshire area, so that residents can properly receive Welsh TV channels, including Welsh news items. Unless viewers subscribe to satellite TV, many in east Radnorshire have to rely on receiving English TV channels, which of course do not provide them with local news or S4C, the Welsh language channel. Now Roger Williams and Kirsty Williams have succeeded in attracting the Director for Ofcom in Wales, Rhodri Williams, plus senior Ofcom official Hywel Wiliam and an Ofcom engineer, to attend a public meeting to hear the views of the town council and local residents about the problem and to discuss solutions. LENTEN LUNCHES - There was a wide range of home-made soups on offer at the fourth Lenten lunch at Saint Edward's Close Community Room. Mr Winter said that he realised that there was concern about the ambulance cover provided in Knighton when the ambulance stationed in Knighton was out. Mr Winter hoped that one day the Knighton ambulance would be staffed 24 hours a day but the funding for this had not been identified. Councillors later stood to pay a silent tribute to their late colleague, Councillor Ralph Evans.
