A STRONG, caring ethos for young people is a strength of Kington's Lady Hawkins High School, according to Ofsted inspectors.
Lady Hawkins is described as a good school with a very good sixth form. Pupils achieve well because of good teaching which is 'never less than good' in the sixth form,. The newly-published report also highlighted that teachers' thorough planning and high expectations, together with their expertise in teaching for examinations, has led to pupils' success.
Head teacher Jon Barry was pleased the report confirmed Lady Hawkins' is a good school. He added: "Education is about more than examination results and I am pleased the report also recognises the high quality of our extra curricular activities and the relationship of all in the school."
Areas for improvement included implementing formal procedures for rigorous school and departmental monitoring and self-evaluation to ensure pupils benefit from good provision in all areas.
Arrangements for pupils with special needs also needed to be updated although learning support assistants offered good support during lessons.
