JOCKEY Gary Hanmer took the plaudits at the South Herefordshire Hunt point to point meeting at Garnons on Sunday when the Chesire-based jockey scored a treble with wins on Just Cliquot, Festival Time and Gaynors Gamble.
Just Cliquout has long been held in high regard by Hanmer. The improving eight-year-old mare was always travelling smoothly in the opening Confined race and once Hanmer had sent his mount into he lead in the final back straight the result was a foregone conclusion as they drew away to win by 10 lengths from runner-up Inis Cara.
Hanmer later completed his treble with wins on Festival Time and Gaynors Gamble in two divisions of the young horse Maiden races. He said of his afternoon's work: "I'm very pleased especially with the two Maiden winners as hopefully they should come on again for the runs and should follow up. I'd like to think they have a future."
Bright Beacon was sent off an odds-on favourite for the eight-runner Men's Open for jockey Evan Williams and owner Pat Tollit and the result was never in doubt on the rain-softened ground early on the final circuit.
Front-running Thats-foreel had already surrendered the lead before coming to grief at the second last fence, giving jockey Adrian Wintle a crashing fall, and Williams was was able to allow his mount to coast home a distance clear of the only other finisher, Time Can Tell.
Castlemorton jockey Tim Stephenson continued his good run of form with a double at the meeting, scoring aboard owner Alan Hollingsworth's Hijacked in the PPORA race and then a Maiden success on Justadream.
Course specialist Upton Adventure duly confirmed odds-on favourtism in the Ladies' open race for owner Peter Corbett and jockey Emma James.
