THE annual meeting of the Friends of Herefordshire Museums and Arts was held in the Council Chamber, Brockington, Hereford. Members were welcomed by trustee, Mr Ian Smart, in the absence of the president, the Earl of Darnley. Chairman Kate Renshall, reported on her first year in office which had seen a major exhibition in Hereford of works whose purchase had been made possible with the help of the Friends over the last 75 years. This help continues with a substantial grant towards the purchase of a David Cox painting. She thanked retiring committee members Denis Sampson and Monica Manwaring for their work over the years. Katharine Wedgbury and Cynthia Sampson will take their places. Secretary Janet Moult reported on visits and lectures that had taken place and also noted that grants had been given to the Waterworks Museum, Leominster Museum and towards the organ recital at the Three Choirs Festival. Treasurer Terry Hawkes presented his report and Ben Stone was re-appointed independent reviewer. The Anne Sandford Bursary was presented to Lara Latcham who is studying part-time for a MA in Museum Studies. The annual meeting was followed by a talk by Duncan James on The Medieval Hall House.
