Westfields 1 Grosvenor Park 0
WESTFIELDS, suitable lifted by the Midland Alliance 'team of the month' and 'manager of the month' awards prior to the kick-off, made a whirlwind start to grab what proved to be the decisive goal in the third minute.
With a gale force wind at their backs Westfields piled on the pressure from the off and in the third minute Derek Craddock darted in to sweep home a left-wing cross as the visiting defence hesitated.
Almost immediately Grosvenor counter-attacked and Jon Pugh did well to thwart Isaac Edwards with a full-length diving save.
Although Westfields dominated, they did not create another clear-cut chance until just before the break when Matt Beale crossed for Scott Jackson to head narrowly wide.
Westfields adjusted their game against the howling wind and their low, crisp passing opened up the visiting defence to put Roy Jordan clear on goal, but the youngster blazed his shot high and wide.
Shots from Nicky Welch, Wayne Hoskins and Jordan were cleared off the line as Westfields looked for a second goal, but it was the home defence who won the applause as Grosvenor finished with a flourish.
Pugh made a brilliant one-handed save to deny Richard Collier, and then dived full length hold a stinging shot from Steve Smith to secure all three points.
l The Midland Alliance joint managers of the month award went to Darren Lynch and Sean Edwards.
