GARDENING guru Monty Don has agreed to head a new 'watchdog' group to safeguard the Arrow Valley near Leominster.
The TV presenter, who lives at Ivington, has spoken out against the spread of polytunnels and one-crop horticulture.
Now he is set to take on the role of president of the Arrow Valley Residents Association.
Spokesman Aubrey Greene said local people, who were faced with devastating changes to their environment, were delighted to have gained the support of Mr Don.
The new group would be launched at a meeting in Ivington Community Room, tomorrow (Friday) at 5pm.
Mr Greene, who has led protests over plans for a £5 million 'village' for foreign fruit pickers at Brierley, said: "Residents realise there is a need to get together on a more permanent basis. "
