YOU REPORT Mr George Hyde (Hereford Times, March 11) as suggesting the proposed Rotherwas Road be paid for by building houses at Bullinghope.
May I suggest that long delays would be avoided if Mr Hyde and his fellow businessmen at Rotherwas would pay for the road themselves.
After all they are the most vociferous in clamouring for the road and they will benefit the most.
Let Rotherwas put its money where its mouth is. If funded by house building then simple mathematics indicates that on the basis of 1,000 houses and a total cost of £8 million this would mean a levy of £8,000 per house.
Of course eventual costs will inevitably be larger, public works contracts always are.
Is the road to be built first, in which case the developer would have to fund it, even though not a single house may have been sold or is the road to be built when all the houses are complete?
