A developer has contacted Newent Town Council over informal proposals for five holiday homes to the rear of The Travellers Rest at Malswick.

The matter came before a full council meeting on Monday, when Coun Len Lawton won support when he said: "This is not a planning application, and I don't think the council should make a comment."

Mayor Fred Passant said if an application were to be made, he would wish to see of drainage proposals and access. He added the development could have implications for the route of the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal, which is currently being restored.
