CAN ANYTHING be done about this ever-increasing council tax which for many people on fixed incomes is a continual worry?
Unlike income tax, there is no way of alleviating the problem through allowances or allowable expenses and it would appear the authorities can levy any increase year after year, 10%, 15%, the sky's the limit. 100% increase in 10 years or less is a real possibility.
Are a significant number prepared to refuse to pay any increase above the current rate of inflation? If a few hundred were, the authorities would surely be influenced to take some action.
Our government with its 'stealth taxes' is of course partly to blame (I trust enough people remember this at the next election) and vote accordingly.
