HOW many have noticed Herefordshire Council is about to increase its staff salaries by a job evaluation programme?
In the vast majority of these exercises, most jobs are given substantial increases. Jobs found to be overpaid are never reduced because that might be a breach of employment contract. Such jobs usually receive some increase or may stand still. The overall result will almost certainly be a substantial extra amount for council tax payers to find.
I should like the council leader and treasurer to explain through your columns: a, What increases will be paid to staff? b, What will be the total costs? c, Why they have decided to carry out this exercise at this critical time?
