Fownhope continue to make the pace in the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division after inflicting a first defeat of the season on title rivals Ewyas Harold, whom they beat 2-1.
Fownhope now lead the division by five points from Wellington Rangers who were without a game on Saturday but have five games in hand over the table-toppers.
Harold came close to taking the lead in the early stages on Saturday when a shot by Peter Lamb from long range thudded against the underside of the bar but came down on the wrong side of the line. Simon Macklin was also unlucky with a flying header which came back off a post.
After surviving these early scares it was Fownhope who took the lead with a fine goal from Steve Winmill who beat two defenders and scored with a superb shot from 30 yards.
As the second half began, Chris Dzioba cleared a shot from Fownhope's Matt Goodall off the line but Ewyas Harold were soon back on terms when Matt Ingram was brought down in the box and Steve Radziejowski scored from the penalty spot.
There were openings at each end as the game appeared to be heading for a draw but then John Morris took advantage of a defensive slip and crossed to the far post where Roy Oval was waiting to slot home. Harold goalkeeper Stuart Turpin, who had an excellent game, got a hand to the ball but was unable to keep it out.
Westfields remain in contention at the top of the table after drawing level on points with second-placed Wellington with a convincing 5-0 success over Sutton United at allpay.park.
Teenager Lee Mussell, the division's top marksman, once again got in on the scoring act and his strike partner Mark Mortlock added two more from the penalty spot.
The home side's other goals came from Wes Owen and Matt Phillips who, along with Matt Beale, back after a 12-week injury absence, ran the midfield for Westfields.
In a midweek game, Westfields had conceded a league double to city rivals Hinton when they went down 2-1 at Broomy Hill.
Mussell gave the visitors an interval lead when his curling 25-yard free-kick found the top corner after half an hour.
But Hinton came out fighting after the break and Jason Prosser soon brought the scores level when he fired home from the edge of the box.
And on the hour mark Prosser got the winner when he reacted quickest to a Matt Ferriday cross to rifle home from close range.
On Saturday, however, Hinton failed to build on this success and went down 3-2 at improving Pegasus.
The home side raced into a two-goal interval lead but Hinton regrouped after the interval to hit back with a well-worked move which saw Steve Whitford and Ian Morris combine to set up the chance for Ferriday to reduce arrears.
Another good move then opened up the opportunity for Danny Johns to level the scores but, just when it seemed as if the game was destined to end all-square, Pegasus grabbed a winner with virtually the last kick of the match.
Pegasus's win takes them ahead of Weston whose disappointing sequence of results continued with a 2-1 home defeat by Lads Club.
Weston had taken the lead in the first half with a fine chip shot from 16-year-old Ryan Hartley and held their lead until mid-way through the second period when James Howard fired a shot through a crowd of defenders to put the city side level.
Ric Real then gave the visitors victory with a superb headed goal when he made ground into the box to power home a right-wing cross.
Ross United Services came out on top in the battle of the bottom two and boosted their hopes of climbing the table with a convincing 4-1 success over Leominster.
Luke Grey was Services' hero with a hat-trick and quickly stamped his personality on proceedings with goals after 10 and 38 minutes.
Leominster pulled a goal back from the penalty spot before substitute Alan Gane raced on to a fine pass from Paul Greenhill to extend the two-goal margin.
Grey then completed his hat-trick in the dying stages to confirm a win which would have been considerably more conclusive but for a fine display by Ian Milner in the Leominster goal.
