A SEA angler's club record catch has provided a bumper fish supper at a local hotel.
Just a month after being appointed chairman of Brecon Sea Angling Club, Rob Sweet landed a huge 40lb cod while fishing with fellow members on the Lady Helen out of Swansea.
A new Brecon best, it was the largest cod by an angler on a boat out of Wales for seven years and the four-feet long monster threatened the Welsh record which has stood at 44.5lb since 1997.
Rob, who lives in Builth Wells, donated the filleted fish to the club sponsor, the Greyhound Hotel in Builth.
"It took 20 minutes to land and it actually snapped the landing net in half," said Rob, whose previous best cod was 15lb in 18 months as a sea angler.
"I didn't have any idea how massive the fish was until we got it up on board."
