SINCE MOVING into Herefordshire last year my wife and I have enjoyed visiting many towns and villages in the county.
Some are promoted as tourist attractions on the 'black and white trail, Eardisland is one of them and signs at both the east and west approaches indicate 'Historic Riverside Village'.
On visiting Eardisland we also expected to walk along part of the riverbank on the footpath indicated on our Ordnance Survey walking map and in our Herefordshire walkers' guide book showing the footpath as part of a Pembridge/Eardisland five-mile circular walk.
We found the path sealed off and a local resident informed us it was subject to a temporary closure order made by Herefordshire Council. This had been done because parts of the path had been eroded away by the meandering River Arrow.
Apparently it had been closed over three years ago and the council had not yet arranged for the reopening of a footpath on the riverside although is now considering doing so.
Hopefully, councillors will use the powers and resources available to them in order to rectify the loss of this public amenity.
