ON your marks, get set, go! Herefordshire women are making a mad dash to sign up for Cancer Research UK's Race for Life.

The event's registration website and phone hotline went live this week ready for the big day at Hereford Leisure Centre on July 18.

Cancer Research UK hopes more than 1,500 Herefordian friends, sisters, mums, aunties and daughters will sign up to help cure cancer faster by walking or running 5km.

Hereford Race for Life, which is being backed by the Hereford Times, forms part of a chain of women-only walks or runs taking place across the country.

Organiser Nic Clarke said: "Now that the registration machines have swung into action, we expect to be deluged with women wanting to sign up for Race for Life and make a real difference to women's lives."

Cancer Research UK hopes collectively the events will raise £20 million to help fund its research into preventing, treating and curing cancer - a disease which will affect one-in-three women in the UK.
