IT'S not quite 'playing God' but it's not far off for Kington postman Martin Davies.

Members of Kington's churches are coming together to produce a version of The Way of the Cross entitled Were You There? and Martin will be taking the role of Jesus.

The performance, which is set to take place from 7pm on March 28 at St Mary's Church, Kington, depicts Christ's final journey to his death on the cross and examines how the decisions of others can mould future events.

The format of the drama has been used since the Middle Ages and it has been standardised into 14 scenes, known as 'stations', enabling worshippers to meditate along the way of the cross.

Each scene will start with narration from the gospel and then a character from the scene will step out and give his or her account of the event, challenging the audience to think about what they would have done in a similar situation.

Around 35 volunteers from churches in and around Kington are to form part of the cast and the main centrepiece will be a cross standing 14 feet tall.

Admission is free although donations would be welcome. For further information contact Martin or Felicity on 01544 230055.
