Ledbury'S good run and luck came to an end with a disappointing Midlands Three West (South) performance against relegation-threatened Southam.
SOUTHAM 33pts, LEDBURY 1ST XV 19pts
Ledbury, knowing a win would hoist them into the comfort of mid-table made a good start, the line-out being solid and the backs looking sharp.
Then Southam opened the scoring and Ledbury seemed to be defeated from that moment on. The home pack then began to dominate the game, winning nearly every scrum and very soon powered over for another try.
Ledbury then got themselves into gear, Rob Collins got the back line moving which resulted in Tom Green going on a trademark powerful surge which put Rob Collins in for a try. Ledbury continued putting on the pressure but basic errors meant they could not score, which led to Southam slotting over a drop goal on the stroke of half time to leave them well in control of the game.
The second half began disastrously for the visitors as Southam quickly rattled up two more tries. Ledbury to their credit continued to battle on and Kieram Hallam sneaked in for a try. Following this Ledbury put together some good phases of play and were finally rewarded at the death by a James Handley try, which left the final score at 33-19 to Southam.
Ledbury captain Matt Williams said after the game: "This was not good enough from this side and recent performances have been mediocre at best. Numbers at training have dwindled, but all first and second team players are expected to train at the club on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 7pm and this should be the case until the end of the season."
Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury play host to table- topping Old Coventrians. Hopefully Ledbury will rise to the challenge and show the home supporters how they can really play. Kick off is at 2.30pm at Ross Road ground, all support most welcome.
