Ledbury solicitors R and C B Masefield has been given the Lexcel quality assurance award by the Law Society, after undergoing strict assessments.
Partner Charles Masefield said only about 300 practices in the UK had gained the professional award.
He said: "We're thrilled. It recognises the quality of service which we've brought to this community."
The practice, which includes Charles Masefield, Richard Brooks and Nicola Jane-Taylor, has had a continuous family link since the 1830s.
Mr Brooks has carried out research that shows that there has been a legal office at the premises on the Worcester Road since the late 18th Century.
The first Masefield solicitor, George, was based there as early as the 1830s, possibly before.
The award comes at a time of change for the Ledbury practice.
Bill Masefield retired in November, after 50 years as a solicitor, having succeeded to the firm on the death of his father in 1952. Mr Masefield is the nephew of the late Poet Laureate, John Masefield.
