Penycae 4 Presteigne 1
PRESTEIGNE crashed out of the Welsh Trophy at the quarter-final stage after a collective off-day at Penycae.
Tony Richards failed with an early chance as Presteigne began strongly and Chris Jones thought that he had put the visitors ahead only for the strike to be ruled out by a linesman flagging for offside.
But a defensive error then let in Penycae to take the lead and the home side further seized the initiative with a good strike before the interval.
Shortly after the break, Neil Lewis appeared to be fouled and all the players stopped except a home striker who took advantage of the referee's decision to play on and raced away to make it 3-0.
Jones then profited from a defensive mix-up to reduce arrears before the officials once again disappointed Presteigne, failing to award what appeared a clear penalty for a foul on Willie Lindesay.
Jones then had another goal disallowed for offside and Dave Beaumont saw a powerful header saved before Penycae took advantage of more poor defending to underline their win with a last-minute goal.
