Hereford are left facing a relegation battle after suffering mixed fortunes in their two weekend games in the Gerrard West of England and South Wales League North Division 1.

On Saturday Hereford skipper Colin Amos played a leading role with both goals as the city side beat visiting North Bristol 2-1.

Hereford created some good early chances to score and finally broke the deadlock when Amos was on hand to convert a short corner.

North Bristol levelled, however, from a short corner of their own but Hereford's spirits did not flag and they were rewarded when Amos fired in his second from another short corner.

The following day the city side travelled to division leaders Westbury & UB who scored three times in the final 10 minutes to emerge with a 5-1 success.

Hereford, though, had the better of the first period and only a combination of poor finishing and excellent goalkeeping prevented them from establishing a comfortable interval lead.

But the home side scored twice at the start of the second period and although Amos pulled one back with 15 minutes to go, Hereford were hit on the counter-attack seeking further goals with Westbury exploiting defensive gaps to gain a conclusive win.

Two early goals from Ian Johnson set Leominster on the way to a 2-1 win over visiting Cwmbran in North Division 2.

The home side produced some good play to work the ball into the D and Johnson was well placed on each occasion to fire the ball into the net.

Cwmbran struggled to create chances from open play with their main threat coming from short corners and it was following one of these that they reduced arrears shortly before the interval.

Fine diving saves by the Cwmbran goalkeeper, who was in excellent form throughout, prevented Josh Watkins and Dave Harvey from extending the lead while at the other end Leominster goalkeeper Tom Jarrett and some strong defending earned the home side a useful success.

Hereford 3rd came out on top 2-0 in their mid-table battle with Bristol University 4th in North-East West District 2.

With play switching rapidly from end to end, both midfields were worked exceptionally hard until Dan Bridges opened the scoring from a penalty corner.

Hereford went on to create many other openings but had to be content with a late goal from Phil Jackson to seal their win.

Hereford 4th had a disappointing afternoon against West Glos 5th in North-East West District 4 and were trounced 6-1 at home.

The visitors had already raced into a four-goal lead before Ben Greenwood provided the cross for Luke Appleby to score a consolation goal.

Only a fine display by Jamie Duncan in the Hereford goal prevented West Glos from registering an even more conclusive success.
