WI MARKET - The annual meeting of Knighton and District WI market was held at the Knighton Hotel. Officers elected were: chairman, Olwen Bowen; vice chairman, Annette Pike; secretary, Cena Pike; treasurer, Angela Lewis; controller, Winnie Davies; vice controller, Rosemary Holden. The WI market is held every Saturday morning at Knighton Farm Supplies from 9.30am to 11.15am. Knighton WI market will be at the Farmers Market this Saturday from 10am to 1pm - as well as at Knighton Farm Supplies.
WEDNESDAY CLUB - Knighton and District Wednesday Club met recently at the Social Room, Saint Edward's Close. Helpers were Mrs M. Cox, Mrs I. Leeson and Mrs W. Davies. Winners in the raffle were Miss V. Pugh, Mrs W. Plant, Mrs M. Cox, Mrs B. Kempson, Mrs R. Parry, Mrs P. Cadwallader, Mrs B. Davies, Mrs M. Payne, Mrs G. Moss and Mrs D. Lewis. Mrs Marjorie Cox was questioner for an interesting quiz.
SAINT EDWARD'S CHURCH - Sunday's service included the baptism of Finlay George Rae Bell the son of Alastair and Jackie Bell.
COFFEE MORNING - There will be a coffee morning in aid of the Fairtrade Foundation at Knighton Church Hall on Tuesday March 2 from 10.30am to 12 noon.
SOCIAL EVENING - There will be a Saint David's Day Social Evening at Whitton Community Centre on Monday, March 1, at 7.30pm. The event is in aid of CMS partners.
FARMERS AND COMMUNITY MARKET - This month's Knighton Farmers and Community Market will be at Knighton Community Centre this Saturday, from 10am to 1pm.
SAINT DAVID'S NIGHT - Saint David's Day will be celebrated at Knighton Community Centre this Saturday with a ceilidh and other entertainment. The event starts at 7.30pm.
DANCES - The next dance at Knighton Community Centre will be on Friday, March 5, with Lady DJ, for over 16s, also a bar for those aged 18 or over. The dance starts at 9.30pm and finishes at 1pm. There will be no admission after 11.30pm. There will be a no-alcohol dance for young people, aged 12 and over, on the following Friday, March 12, with DJ Storm from 8.30pm to 11.30pm. Refreshments will be available. The proceeds of both these events will go towards the running costs of the Community Centre.
SIR FRANCIS EDWARDS CENTRE - Age Concern Radnorshire has launched the Good Companions Club at the Sir Francis Edwards Centre, and this will be followed by a series of events at the centre. There will be a celebration of Saint David's Day next Monday at 12 noon. Traditional music for the occasion will be served up with leek soup and Welsh cakes. On Monday, March 8, there will be a not too serious quiz morning with a prize for the winner. This will start at 10.30am, and entry is 75p which included tea or coffee.
On Monday, March 22, there will be an expert on hand to give advice on pensions.Traditional stew and dumplings are on the menu on Monday, March 29. The event starts at 12 noon. George Linaker will give a slide show on Monday, April 26, at 10.30am. On Monday, May 10, there will be another quiz morning at 10.30am. The Good Companions Club and all these events are organised by the Friends of The Sir Francis Edwards Centre, which meets at the centre on the second Tuesday of each month at 10am. BOWLS CLUB WHIST DRIVE - Knighton Ladies' Bowlers held a whist drive in the Club House in Church Road. Winners in the whist were: ladies: 1 Christine Price, 2 Olive Mival, 3 Connie Bright, lowest Lilian Bennett. Gentlemen: 1 Robert Jones, 2 Jim Bennett, 3 Shirley Moorhouse, lowest Frank Evans: highest first half, Ted Pugh: highest second half, Sue Price.
Winners of prizes in the draw were: Frank Evans, Sue Price, Ann Price and Ann Price.
FESTIVAL OF BRASS BANDS - Knighton Festival of Brass Bands next concert will be on Saturday, March 27, when the Buy As You View Cory Band will return for their third concert in Knighton. The band, with their musical director Robert Childs, are third place in the Band Championship Ratings.
