Hereford Branch of the National Council of Women have had three working meetings this year on topics including research into the rising use of alcohol by young women and girls, the content and sourcing of school meals and care of the elderly. There is follow-up work to be done on the branch's successful resolutions on diversion of footpaths, fortification of flour with folic acid and the investigation of Sudden Unexpected Infant Deaths.
February's speaker meeting finished early, for members to get across the flooded Wye Bridge before it closed. Speaker Sarah Ashton, from Witness Support, has agreed to return. NCW members will be in the foyer of Hereford Library, from March 30 to April 3, to answer questions about the organisation, which is non-party-political and open to all women. NCW is organising a seminar in the House of Commons, hosted by Caroline Spelman MP on Wednesday, May 5, on alcohol misuse in young people.
