THE NEWS that foreign workers at a local farm are to be accommodated close to the fields in which they will work, and be provided with decent amenities for relaxation and recreation is to be welcomed.

After all, happy and well cared for workers will be significantly more contented.

In contrast, when Herefordshire decides to build hundreds of houses on new estates, it is years afterwards that health surgeries, leisure facilities, libraries and crucial infrastructure are considered.

Perhaps the forward thinking farm directors could be pointed in the general direction of our council, in the forlorn expectation that folks with such innovative ideas could be utilised for the advantage of the entire community?

Unquestionably, such people would also possess the capability to enhance local services, while keeping council tax at a tolerable rate, for they would possess the acumen and expertise to appreciate that throwing money at problems does not necessarily equate to improvement.
