Leominster Town 3 Malvern Rangers 2
AFTER beating the visitors 5-2 at Malvern the previous week, a rather complacent Leominster had to thank Wesley Evans for the late goal which completed a West Midlands League Division 1 South double.
Possibly expecting an easy win, Town made a lethargic start and almost conceded an early goal.
But they opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Evans intercepted a Malvern attack to lift a long ball over the top of the visiting defence for Dan Rocke to outpace his markers and shoot under the advancing Ross Sanders.
Dylan Barrington and Ben Price combined to set up Bobby Aldrich to extend Leo-minster's lead when his header went in off the underside of the bar.
Rangers hit back just before the break when Mark Tipton slotted home a penalty after Evans was adjudged to have pushed Mark Taylor and they levelled midway through the second period through Chris Davis.
Although Town pressed for a winner, they did not find a way through the stubborn Malvern defence until Evans picked up a weak clearance just outside the box to bag the three points with a crisp volley.
l LEOMINSTER booked a place in the third round of the West Midlands Division 1 Cup when they came from behind in a mid-week tie to draw 1-1 after extra-time and then force a penalty shoot-out against North Division rivals Wyrley Rangers. They won the shoot-out 4-1.
Both teams failed to score in an entertaining 90 minutes, but the visitors edged in front in the first period of extra time.
With time running out, Chris Price popped up to force a penalty shoot-out. After Wyrley had missed their first two spot-kicks, Daniel Stack, Dan Rocke, Mark Ruslin and Jason Jones made no mistake to extend Town's cup run.
l LEOMINSTER thrashed local rivals Ludlow Town 7-1 at home in the HFA Under-18 Floodlit Youth League with a hat-trick from Marcus Jones, a brace from Ben Price, and a goal each from Alex Trezins and Bobby Aldrich.
